Another Love Story recounts how artist Karla Hiraldo Voleau transformed a personal betrayal into a creative project. What began as a romantic tribute to her former partner shifted dramatically when she learned he had secretly been involved with another woman throughout their year-long relationship. Rather than simply processing this pain privately, she gathered photographs documenting the relationship and decided to recreate them precisely, hiring an actor who closely resembled her ex-partner to revisit the actual locations and moments of their time together.

This restaging blurs fiction and reality, since the artist herself now controls the narrative she once believed was authentic. The images are displayed in grid formats echoing social media feeds or phone galleries, prompting reflection on how photography shapes romantic memory while ultimately failing to capture a relationship’s true nature. A transcript of the phone conversation between the artist and the other woman, where both discover the deception together, punctuates the series and conveys more genuine intimacy than the staged scenes. Through this work, Hiraldo Voleau confronts her wound openly, using art as a means of reclaiming agency rather than succumbing to victimhood.

Designed as an economical object (inexpensive to produce), this exhibition booklet consists of a folded A3 sheet containing information related to the exhibition, a leporello (an A3 sheet cut into three panels) summarizing Karla’s artistic journey, and a miniature photo print offered to visitors. The whole piece takes the form of a sleeve resembling those used for photos and negatives that could once be found in photo shops. The choice of monochrome blue references the characteristic color regularly used by the artist in her work, notably through the blue tape she uses in her studio to create her wall installations.
